Blackforge Developer Diary

Hey guys,

So as you may have seen from my introductory post I am developing a series of items called "Blackforge". Which will be a scavenger/survivalist type of gear. I will be using this thread to keep everyone up to date on my work on the items.

The .223 Blackforge is a modification of a typical hunting bolt action rifle. Designed to take down medium to small
game, What it lacks in firing speed it makes up for in range. This rifle is famously used by Blackforge Survivalist
to draw out hostile or aggressive predators from the pack so the hunter can take it down.

So not everything is based off fictional designs. the first thing you see is a sword I hand forged when I was only 12 years old.
The second is an Ontario Milspec modified machete which I will model. Bicycle intertube and other things were attached that
someone would need for fire starting, couple extra knives etc. The fourth item is a arrow quiver made from oven heated and
shaped pvc pipe, then given a cover with a pair of old ruined denim jeans of mine then bound together with paracord
and a remington rifle sling.

Below you will see a screenshot of one of the 3D models which will go into Project Ion based off one of my real life items.

The Trench Digger is the close quarters Frankenstein of the Blackforge
survivalist faction. While reloading speed and range are sacrificed
power and firing speed are optimal, as well as some spray dmg.

Alternate attack allows for the player to attack with melee without ammo
but with increased decay to the rifle, and only 1/3rd the dmg to the enemy.

Note: I will be working on some of the sketches for the stuff I will be doing
but you won't see any of the Blackforge series in game until after new vu
fixes network issues that don't allow me to play Ion. Hope you understand,
that I want to make sure I can also enjoy and experience what I am investing time into.

Hey guys just noticed the concept sketch for the rifle is missing, sorry about that.
I am still waiting for the new vu so I can play, so I have been focused on paid work
at the moment.

But wanted to share with you guys one of the assets I recently did for a client
which I feel will match the style and quality of stuff I will be doing for Project Ion.

It's looking real nice Cody,

Too bad you rushed out of IRC just before Babar posted a suggestion that could potentially fix the network issues you've been experiencing. The new VU is coming along nicely, but until we are ready to release it you could try and see if TCPOptimizer can make things better for you: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

Had to check the logs for this but you're right. It was actually ryst who made the suggestion:

March 14th
(20:07:18) ryst: maybe a tcp optimizer will help cody?
(20:07:25) ryst: http://www.speedguide.net/files/TCPOptimizer.exe
(20:08:18) ryst: http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php

You and ubminer were offering help with equipment acquiring / selling, unaware that Cody already left the room:

March 14th - A bit earlier
(17:59:25) CodyRauh left the room (quit: [ZN] Quit: "http://www.mibbit.com ajax IRC Client").
(17:59:59) Babar: i'm sure ppl dont mind trading with you for now
(18:00:07) Babar: you can work around your issue is my point
(18:13:46) JSL: working at new new networking system were we have more controll over things and we will see what that does ;)
(18:16:14) ubhamburger: well if u need stuff just ask me or bab we can help u if we on line
(18:17:18) ubhamburger: I do not mined buying u stuff or just selling stuff for you

Goes to show how fragile our memories can be :D

Thank you guys, and as far as rushing out I have been working a lot of hours so couldn't stay and chat for an hour.

But as I told the dev's Project Ion is the only game/program out of the 300+ games I have which doesn't run properly.
I am not gonna risk creating more issues, just to play a game that obviously needs to be fixed in order to work
with "everyone's" connection.

I know they are working on it, and it will take as long as it takes, I understand that. But until it is fixed, however
many months from now you won't see me around near as much as if I could play.

Alright, so let's recap this for clarity:

- There's a confirmed issue with our networking.
- TCPOptimizer is a confirmed workaround.
- You don't want to risk a workaround.

Not much for me to do except leaving it up to you ...

Mate don't get snarky with me.

My work is online, and this game is the
only game out of over 300 games I own
and all my network dependent programs,
which doesn't work.

I make my living online, not everyone is a coder,
or knows how to customize their network without
seriously messing it up.

You think I am going to risk, messing up my network
and potentially losing a client to play PI, you are out
of your frigging mind.

I will wait for next vu to fix the problem properly
and it to work like it should, as other games do.

Until then, getting shitty with your player base
over something that isn't working, is not a way
to make this game better.

I don't know what snarky means, but considering your attitude it must be something negative.

Just to be clear: You don't own this game, and you're the only one complaining about a 'shitty' treatment. Waiving every attempt from players and developers sincerely trying to support you with the issues you encounter, isn't the way we do things around here. For all I care I waive all benefits of you making anything for us.

Thanks for everything, and good luck...

Snarky ='s sharply critical; cutting; snide.
Edit: I made this statement cause your comments came off pretty pissy and condescending in tone.

Lets be real clear here.

1. I never presumed to own the game, so there is no reason to make that statement.

2.
- I never complained about "shitty" treatment.
- I stated I am waiting until next vu, so I will be around less.
- I also stated I am not modifying my network to run a game,
due to risk of that it could disable my ability to work.

3. I didn't waive every attempt for help, I tried multiple solutions.
I ONLY refused to modify my network cause of potential risk.

My income will always be more important than a game.

4. I do appreciate Jelle and the others who have helped me in the game, and their efforts to make the game
playable until the next vu. I have said thank you to people many times in game, I have also told Jelle thank you
multiple times. I do appreciate those people.

5. - The only person who I feel has been unpleasant towards me so far is YOU.
You are the only person I don't like so far, I don't know who you are, I don't frankly don't care.

6. If anyone feels I am being out of line for stating I am waiting until the next vu
and that I will be around less until then is outrageous then I will gladly leave.

Please post below if this is what you want.

Well that is truly unfortunate mate. I felt I said thanks a lot.
I was truly appreciative of the extra time you spent trying
to help me, and we did try several things to remedy the problem.

But my feelings on the matter remain the same. If you want
to "recap for clarity" and then say well no ones fault but mine
that I can't play and that I made no effort on my part to fix the
problem. It is both inaccurate and insulting.

I also stand by the feeling that if this is how you handle players
when there is an issue like this, even after they state that "Hey
I understand this will take time and I will be back after the vu's fix."

Then it is best I don't give my time freely to your project.
Whether your game is free or not, this type of approach
to dealing with players that have a game breaking issue,
definitely negatively effects your game in the long run.

Especially when said player was willing to donate time
and talent for your benefit with nothing in return.

Best of luck, cheers!

Yea, go away !! Damn man... you go in this sort of venture and you do not even know who are the devs ?? Take a break, go to restaurant with your horse I don't know ...

It's a free project dude. You can't ask money G for it. Every body know it but not you. I think you went too passionate and lost it at some point.

Feel free to let us know if you're feeling bad for Cody and/or mad at us, purely based on the contents of this thread.
There is IRC logging that we don't publish on purpose as we don't want any part in ruining his reputation.

We granted him influence to develop his full line of equipment under his name and conditions.
He could have played an awesome role in-game promoting his products as CEO of Blackforge.
This thread only exists because we went against our intuition when we accepted his 'offer'...

Treedoc - I knew who the Dev's were, via IRC not their forum accounts that have an alternate name.
I never asked for money, never expected money, wanted to help and see the game improve.

Jelle (SnelleEddie) - Thanks for the further insults and patronization on my way out.

It's never been my intention to insult anyone, but I realize the truth can be insulting at times.
If there's anything incorrect about my last statement I'd be interested to hear about it...
